Our drive to give our patients the most advanced veterinary treatments available goes all the way back to the origin of T.H.E. Cat Hospital more than 20 years ago.
In 1981, five years after he received his DVM from Colorado State University, Dr. Elston was working at a mixed-animal veterinary practice. After watching cats at that practice quietly relegated to second-tier status, Dr. Elston had an idea. He believed that cat lovers longed for the specialized care and quieter atmosphere of state-of-the-art veterinary facility meant just for cats. People told him he was crazy, that a veterinary practice couldn’t afford to cut its patient base by treating only one kind of animal. Ignoring these skeptics, Dr. Elston founded T.H.E. Cat Hospital of Boston, becoming the first and only feline practitioner in all of New England.
It turned out that he was right—cat lovers were ecstatic to find the expertise and devoted care that T.H.E. Cat Hospital provided. Business boomed and feline-only practices began to open up across the United States.

By 1990, the sunny climes of Southern California lured the Elston family to Orange County, where Dr. Elston used the same blueprint of quality medicine and quality service to build his second successful practice, T.H.E. Cat Hospital of Irvine. This second practice also gave Dr. Elston a chance to improve on the original—Veterinary Economics named T.H.E. Cat Hospital as a finalist for its prestigious Hospital Design of the Year Award.

We constantly strive to build on our success, focusing on continuing education and delivering the most advanced treatments available using state-of-the-art equipment. We recently became one of the first veterinary practices to replace our traditional, film based x-ray system with a completely digital system that is fully integrated with our practice management software. Going digital will make it easier to show our clients exactly what the doctor sees in an x-ray and will help to speed turnaround times when a second opinion is necessary.

And because we no longer need to purchase expensive radiography film, it will actually help to reduce our costs—just one of the ways we’re able to give you highest level of veterinary care at reasonable prices.
